FRACTURED PRUNE DOUGHNUTS FINDS SWEET NEW LOCAL SPOT

Looks like a Fractured Prune Doughnuts shop is making a return to Loudoun County. Word is a new location of this Maryland-based chain will soon be opening near Ashburn.

Looks like a Fractured Prune Doughnuts shop is making a return to Loudoun County. Word is a new location of this Maryland-based chain will soon be coming to the Village of Leesburg center.

The oddly-named doughnut shop is known for their deep fried dough rings covered in all types of sinfully sweet toppings. The Fractured Prune offers 19 different glazes including banana, key lime and peach. There are more than a dozen toppings such as marshmallows, sea salt, vanilla wafers or crumbled bacon.

Back around 2010, there were at least two Fractured Prune locations — one in downtown Leesburg, the other on Overland Drive down off of Old Ox near the airport. But both appear to have gone out of business quickly. So hopefully the third time is a charm.

Fractured Prune Doughnuts was founded in 1976 in Ocean City, Maryland. The brand is named for Prunella Shriek, a 19th century O.C. resident who got the nickname due to the many broken bones she suffered playing sports into her 70s.
