WAWA GETTING CLOSER TO ASHBURN

The popular convenience store brand Wawa is opening it’s first Loudoun County location this winter.

When we posted our recent story about Ashburn getting a Royal Farms convenience store, many people said they wished our community would get a Wawa store too. Well, we’re getting warmer.

Loudoun County’s first Wawa station is under construction right now in Sterling, at the corner of Old Ox and Oak Grove Road. It’s about seven miles (give or take) from central Ashburn, only about a block west of the Fairfax County line. But hey, it counts. Until now, our nearest Wawa has been about 10 miles away in Chantilly. Sterling’s Wawa should open sometime in early 2017.

For those not familiar, Wawa and Royal Farms are large gas stations/convenience stores in the same vein as Sheetz. They are usually bigger than a 7-Eleven or a Circle K with more gas pumps, more merchandise and they usually feature their own full-fledged fast-food restaurant inside. And customers often express an unusually passionate loyalty to one brand over another.

It looks like a sheetz is under construction about a mile down the road from the wawa. On old ox road, just east of route 28.
