Book lovers, start your engines! The annual Friends of the Ashburn Library Winter Book Sale is coming, featuring thousands upon thousands of used books of every kind. The dates were announced today: Jan. 26 to Jan. 29.

If you’ve never been, it’s a book bonanza of current and past bestsellers — drama, romance, sci-fi, adventure — plus niche books in a variety of subjects including  history, language, medicine, biographies and lots of children’s books as well. They’ll also have movie DVDs and music CDs for sale too. And it’s all at bargain basement prices. (Seriously, we spend a few bucks and walk out with a big bag full of books.)

The main sale days are Friday, Jan. 27 to Sunday, Jan. 29 and there’s no entrance fee, but there will also be a pre-sale on the evening of Thursday, Jan. 26. The pre-sale costs $15 to get in, but you will get first crack at all the best books ahead of the hordes. Trust us — on the main days, it’s a madhouse of hardcore book hunters scrambling over and under tables looking for their favorite authors. (Not to mention the folks who come through with tiny electronic scanners — we’re not sure what they’re doing, but our guess is they’re buying books to resell online for a profit.)

If you have stacks of old books you’ve already read, now is the time to clear your shelves. The library is accepting donations during regular business hours from Jan. 9 to Jan. 25. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Friends of the Ashburn Library organization.
