AS FRESH MARKET PREPARES TO CLOSE, LONG LINES FORM

Local customers taking full advantage of discounted prices.

It was late Tuesday evening when The Burn first reported that the Fresh Market at One Loudoun would be closing for good. By today, the word had clearly spread as the parking lot was full and shoppers crammed the store’s aisles to take advantage of fire sale prices.

The entire store is 30 percent off, including its great selection of beer and wine. The Burn popped in to pick up some wine but gave up when we saw the long lines at each register. A manager said he expected most of the beer and wine to be gone within the first two days of the closing sale.

The Fresh Market is tentatively scheduled to close on May 3, but that date could change if they sell out their inventory sooner.

Meanwhile, no official word yet about what will take over the vacated space. As regular readers of The Burn know, Trader Joe’s is actively seeking its first Loudoun County location and social media is rife with people speculating and postulating that the One Loudoun space would be ideal. But officials with the center declined to comment and a message sent to Trader Joe’s hasn’t been answered yet.

By far,the nicest grocery store in the area. Quality products, friendly staff, relaxing classical music. I shopped there often and will miss stress-free trips to get groceries.

The prices were higher than every other grocery store in the area and I have on more than one occasion got home and found that I had purchased expired goods. The manager(s) did take care of the situation when the latter incidents occurred, however. And though I felt that I could get better value at other stores in the area, I did shop here frequently and I will miss it. The store was pleasant and there were some things that I would only buy at The Fresh Market. I hope we get another one somewhere in the area sometime in the future.

Where were all these people when the store was trying to stay open?

We did 80% of our food here. Will miss the pleasant experience. Too bad they opened too early and closing just when condo’s explosion is starting in One Loudoun. The store size and location is perfect for Trader Joe’s.
