Who says bookstores are dead? The Burn has learned that the Books-A-Million store in Leesburg is moving to a new space three times as large come this summer. Great news for Loudoun book lovers!
For years now, the Books-A-Million store at the Leesburg Plaza has occupied a tiny 2,000 s.f. space next to the Giant supermarket. But in June, the store is scheduled to move a few hundred feet down the plaza, into a new 6,000 s.f. space. The new BAM will be in between Bunker Sports Cafe and Kobe Japanese Steakhouse, just down from Party City and PetSmart. (If we recall correctly, it’s the space formerly occupied by Woodcraft before they moved out to Battlefield Parkway.)
Tentative plans call for a soft opening around June 22 and for the store to be fully moved by the start of July.
Of course, many area residents are excited about the much larger and fancier Barnes & Noble preparing to open later this year at One Loudoun (it’s got its own restaurant, for heaven’s sake), but in this day of e-readers and online ordering, it’s always good to see any bookstore expanding rather than closing.
