LOUDOUN STATION “SPRAYGROUND” SCHEDULED TO OPEN SATURDAY

The water feature unveiling will be part of the center’s “Summerbration Kickoff” happening this weekend.

Loudoun Station, off Shellhorn Road in Ashburn, is preparing to unveil its new community park this weekend, including a water feature known as a “sprayground.”

A play on the word “playground,” a sprayground is a pad with jets of water that shoot up from the ground. It serves as an attractive fountain area, but also a place that kids (and sometimes adults) can splash around and cool off on a hot summer day.

The new sprayground at Loudoun Station is supposed to open tomorrow (Saturday, Jun. 3) as part of the center’s “Summerbration Kickoff” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature:

• Bach to Rock elementary bands
• Snow Cones
• Food Samples
• Face Painting & Tattoos
• Balloon ArtistCraft Tables
• Fitness Demos (Pilates, Stroller Strides, Boxing)
• Loudoun County Fire & Rescue Trucks & Personnel
• Giveaways

But the highlight will be the opening of what’s known as the District Park, a new feature at the center that includes the spray ground, a more traditional playground, a stage, a sitting area, a lawn and more.

The Burn stopped out on Thursday and the construction crews were still hard at work, pouring cement and planting trees. But Loudoun Station officials said all would be in place by showtime Saturday.
