SNEAK PEEK: INSIDE SHANGHAI STATIONS AT THE VILLAGE OF LEESBURG

The new restaurant will feature Asian French fusion cuisine inspired by old Shanghai.

For more than a year now, we’ve been hearing about a new restaurant coming to the Village at Leesburg. Shanghai Stations had leased the space next to the Cobb Village 12 movie theater. But what exactly the plans were — even exactly what type of restaurant it would be — has been a mystery.

Until now.

Construction is underway on Shanghai Stations — a small shingle sign has even been installed in front of the store. The Burn reached out to owner Tom Wong and his wife, Nikki, and they shared all the details and even lovely artistic renderings of their upcoming restaurant.

The cuisine will be Asian French, inspired by the old days of Shanghai when European countries had “stations” there representing them.

The head chef at Shanghai Stations will be Bruce Lim, who was born in Singapore and raised in Paris, where he trained as a chef. He worked at the Four Seasons in Philly, had his own restaurant there for more than a decade and has also been a private chef for the owner of an NFL team.

The still-in-the-works menu sounds like a who’s who of Asian French fusion cooking. Here’s just a small sampling:

  • Foie gras chicken dumplings
  • Calamari with sambal chili mayo
  • Peking duck salad with poached egg, snow peas, red pepper and hoisin dressing
  • Boneless Branzino with sauteed watercress and roasted fingerling potatoes
  • Monogolian grilled lamb chop with saffron rice in curry sauce

There’s lots more where that came from, including house-made French pastries and desserts. Shanghai Stations is hoping to open by late September/early October of this year.
