After many months of eager anticipation, Fractured Prune Doughnuts returns to Loudoun County tomorrow morning. According to the owners, the new location at the Village of Leesburg center will open at 9 a.m. sharp, Thursday morning.
The shop is owned by Angela Smith, a retired Marine who piloted KC-130s. Her daughter, Kaelin Evans, is the general manager.
The first Fractured Prune doughnut shop opened in Ocean City, Maryland in 1976. It quickly became famous for its fresh, hot doughnuts where you can pick your own glazes and toppings. The unusual name comes from Prunella Shriek, a 19th century Ocean City resident who was very athletic but also accident prone.
Years ago, Loudoun had two Fractured Prune locations, including one in downtown Leesburg, but they are no longer open. The Village at Leesburg location is tucked in between the AT&T store and the Rocket Fizz candy shop. You’ll need this information because the permanent Fractured Prune sign hasn’t been installed yet.
