The Village at Leesburg center is hosting their annual ice carving competition this Saturday, a fun event that sees frigid blocks of ice turned into stunning, intricate sculptures. The event has drawn thousands of spectators in the past.

Eight skilled artists will employ chisels and chainsaws, blow torches and ice picks to whittle away at their frozen masterpieces. The work begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and the competitors will work all day until after dark. That’s when prizes will be awarded and the transparent sculptures will be illuminated with light.

Fingers crossed that the weather conditions will be milder than predicted. Once complete, the sculptures will stay on display at the Village until they melt or have to be taken down for safety.
