A new restaurant called Captain Catoctins Crab House & Garden has announced they are opening soon and will bring a Maryland style crab house to the heart of Loudoun.
The Burn doesn’t usually report on happenings in Downtown Leesburg, but we’re making an exception for this news because we know lots of Ashburnians love a good crab picking and won’t mind a short drive to get to one.
Captain Catoctin’s is the brainchild of Nils Schnibbe, formerly of the McDowell Brew Kitchen and the Döner Bistro. It’s address will be 14 Loudoun St. SE, the location previously occupied by The Cajun Experience restaurant.

Anyone know when they are opening ?
Actual Maryland crabs, or just Maryland “style.”? 🙂
Actually, it is the brainchild of Nils’ partner, Dave Miller. Nils is the enabler.:-)
Catherine, I’ve been catching, steaming, eating, throwing large crab feasts for 40 odd years, and thought the way you do. I considered myself a crab snob. The more I’ve learned, it turns out there is no discernible difference in Callinectes sapidus from Maryland, The Carolinas, or Louisiana, with the only subtle deviation being late in the season, when Maryland crabs begin to store fat for hibernation. Southern crabs don’t hibernate, so they don’t develop this fat content.
Learn something new every day! Thanks!
