CVS CLOSING BELMONT GREENE LOCATION

The CVS at the intersection of Belmont Ridge Road and Portsmouth Boulevard will close next month.

The CVS drugstore at Portsmouth Boulevard and Belmont Ridge Road sits across the street from the beleaguered Village at Belmont Greene shopping center. Now, this seemingly cursed corner will suffer another blow when the CVS shuts its doors for good on March 11.

The news has been circulating for more than a week now and tonight, a CVS store manager confirmed it for The Burn.

The Village at Belmont Greene shopping center has seemed to struggle ever since the Bloom grocery store closed in 2010. Without an anchor store, the parking lot is usually nearly empty, although several businesses have continued to find success there including a TopKick martial arts studio and a Ledo’s Pizza.

The Belmont Greene CVS (which has an address on Eastern Kingbird Plaza) may not technically be part of the nearby shopping center, but it’s location directly across the street means it experiences the same challenges other businesses have faced at this location. When it closes next month, it will leave only a Wells Fargo bank branch on that side of the street.

Why are there so few drug stores in Ashburn? It’s like a desert here!

Is there any information as to what is going to happen with The Village at Belmont Greene shopping center? It has been years since Blooms closed. I find it really frustrating to see all the new construction going on in the area and here we have an empty store… and now with CVS closed yet another vacant location. Any rumors or talk about what is going to happen with the old Blooms location or CVS?

Nothing specific. I’ve heard of some interest in the buildings across the street (CVS and Wells Fargo) but that’s about it.
