Kung Fu Tea, a New York-based chain of bubble tea shops, is making plans for a location in Ashburn. A rep at the company’s HQ said they have a local franchisee and hope to have a shop open by late this year.
Bubble teas are a Taiwanese creation — basically tea-based drinks of all sorts that feature chewy tapioca balls, fruit jelly or other ingredients. Kung Fu Tea offers an extensive menu, including classic teas, milk teas, slushes, punches and more.
The Kung Fu Tea brand is expanding rapidly and has nearly 120 locations open or in the works around the country. Many of them are in the Washington D.C.-New York corridor. The closest locations to Ashburn currently are in Reston and Centerville.
