CLAIBORNE PARKWAY CONSTRUCTION GETTING UNDERWAY

The final stretch of Claiborne will connect Croson Lane to Ryan Road and provide a major link between Brambleton and the rest of Ashburn.

Big news in Ashburn — construction on the long-awaited final stretch of Claiborne Parkway is getting underway. The new expansion will finally connect Claiborne between Croson Lane just south of the Broadlands to Ryan Road in Brambleton.

When complete, drivers will be able to travel from Lansdowne near the Potomac River south through Belmont, Ashburn Village, Ashburn Farm, Broadlands and Brambleton and connect with Loudoun County Parkway as it heads south and eventually connects with Highway 50 and South Riding. (The last portion of LoCo Parkway isn’t done yet, but is in the works.)

Like the rest of Claiborne, the new portion will be four lanes. It will have a sidewalk on the east side and an asphalt path on the west side. There will be a traffic signal installed at the intersection of Claiborne and Ryan.

The county issued the Notice to Proceed Wednesday. That’s the official “green light” for work to begin. Construction crews will work south, from Croson to Ryan, and should start clearing trees in the next couple of weeks. Work will continue for more than a year and the new roadway should be complete sometime in Fall 2018.

Thanks for this. Do you have any info on when the last section of the LoCo Pkwy might finally open? That will be the big game-changer.
