HEN PENNY FRIED CHICKEN EXPLORING VILLAGE AT LEESBURG

The brand, which has a location in Reston, is looking at a spot next to the Cobb movie theater.

(UPDATE 7-27-17: It appears the discussions between Hen Penny and the Village at Leesburg have not been fruitful, and the fried chicken brand is continuing its search for a second location elsewhere.)

The Burn loves its fried chicken and so we were beyond excited to hear that the nascent Hen Penny fried chicken chain is considering a spot at the Village of Leesburg.

They’re reportedly looking at a spot next to the Cobb Village 12 movie theater. It would be right in between two other new restaurants coming to the Village — the 5 Tara Indian restaurant and the long-awaited Shanghai Station Dumpling & Noodle Bar.

Hen Penny is a fast-casual spin-off of the Hen Quarter restaurants which have locations in Alexandria and Silver Spring. The first Hen Penny opened earlier this year in the Reston Town Center. The brand is reportedly hoping to open up to two dozen stores in the greater DC area.

The Hen Penny menu features classic southern fried chicken, as well as Nashville hot chicken, chicken sandwiches and entree salads. Sides include the classics: whipped potatoes, french fries and chopped slaw. On its dessert menu, there’s a fried Twinkie.

The Burn first wrote about Hen Penny back in May and we’ve tried their chicken. It’s delicious, so we are really hoping this deal goes through. Fingers crossed.
