COCINA ON MARKET OPEN FOR BUSINESS

The artistic eatery specializes in Mexican street food and dozens of different tequilas.

Cocina on Market — the new Mexican restaurant on West Market in downtown Leesburg has officially opened — welcoming guests into an amazing space filled with custom artwork commissioned just for the restaurant. Top top that, they plan to open an amazing rooftop dining space later this summer.

Cocina has released their preliminary menu — call it a working menu that could change in coming weeks — and it’s filled with some great sounding dishes.  Chili and lime chicharrones, three styles of ceviche, street tacos, a chorizo quesadilla and more. The focus is Mexican street food, especially from regions such as Oaxaca, Puebla and Veracruz. (See the full menu below.)

The bar serves wine and beer but it’s specialty is cocktails made with tequila and mezcal. Cocina stocks roughly 150 different tequilas and mezcals and even offers flights of them so you can experiment with different types.

Besides the great sounding food and drinks, guests will likely love the interesting art choices — from the giant sculpted “agave” light having over the bar (created by Lovettsville artist Michael Clay) to tiny details like a long shelf lined with colorful Mexican “Day of the Dead” style tiles.
