ASHBURN-BASED ROCOTO GOURMET FOOD TRUCK DEBUTS THIS WEEK

The new truck serves authentic Peruvian food.

The Burn recently told you there were a lot of great new food trucks popping up around Loudoun County and we weren’t kidding. This week, lovers of Peruvian food are in for a treat when the new Rocoto Gourmet food truck hits the streets.

Owned and operated by Chef Rick, an Ashburn resident, Rocoto Gourmet’s menu is filled with delicious dishes he brought with him from his childhood in Callao, a suburb of Lima, Peru. We’re talking things like a Pan Con Chicharron sandwich (slow-cooked pork, lightly fried, served on a roll with slices of grilled sweet potato) and Chicken Anticuchos (chicken skewers with Peruvian spices, served with grilled sweet corn and grilled potatoes). Check out the complete menu here.

Chef Rick used to be IT Guy Rick before making this major career change. “I was used to working in a high pressure, fast-paced environment,” Rick said. “What made me want to change direction was a passion for food. I’ve been all over Northern Virginia, Maryland, DC … and I couldn’t find anything that reminded me of home.”

The new Rocoto Gourmet food truck officially debuts on Thursday. It will be on Park Ridge Drive in Reston during the lunch hour and at the Food Truck Depot in South Riding on Thursday evening. On Sunday, they will be serving up their Peruvian specialties from 1 to 5 p.m. at a kids holiday event at Hogback Mountain Pony Rides in Leesburg. If you follow Rocoto Gourmet on Facebook and Twitter, they will be posting their weekly schedule each Monday.

FYI, in case you were wondering, a “rocoto” is a hot pepper popular in Peru. The food truck will have a rocoto hot sauce available for anyone who likes things spicy.
