FRITO CHICKEN GIVES ASHBURN NEW FRIED CHICKEN OPTION

The restaurant has opened in the Ashburn Eats center on Waxpool Road.

It seems the fried chicken gods are smiling on Ashburn these days. Not only are we getting Royal Farms chicken next week when the new store opens off Claiborne Parkway, but another new chicken place opened quietly in Ashburn this past weekend. Frito Chicken has taken over the space formerly occupied by the Peruvian-style Pollo Factory at the Ashburn Eats center on Waxpool Road (by Five Guys and Moe’s).

Frito Chicken is the brain child of Amina Khan. She’s was born in Pakistan, raised in Canada and has collected a wealth of recipes. Over the years, friends have told Khan that her chicken recipes — both fried and roasted — are some of the best they’ve ever had. With the encouragement of her friends and her husband, she’s given the Pollo Factory space a make-over and opened Frito Chicken.

Right now, the menu is tightly focused on roast chicken, fried chicken and chicken tenders. Sides include mashed potatoes, French fries, fried rice, corn, salad and more. Milkshakes are offered too.

Khan says she is in a soft opening phase right now, trying to perfect everything. She’s planning a grand opening for next month sometime. Be aware that while the roast chicken is usually available immediately, the fried chicken is currently made to order, so there is a wait. Khan says she hopes to speed that up soon.

Pollo Factory was a huge disappointment and I was surprised to see it last as long as it did, it couldn’t hold a candle to Firebrick Chicken on Ashburn Road.
I’ll definitely give Frito Pollo a try this weekend.

Update: I tried Frito Chicken just a few minutes ago. The good news? The fried chicken is REALLY good. It has a little bit of a bite to it, but just enough to enhance the taste, not dominate it. I got a three piece (dark) meal because I was super hungry. Well, now I’m super full. I got three thighs, a side of fires (daughter wanted them) and mashed potatoes.
The sides were big, I ate about a third of the mashed potatoes, which were good, and I tried the fries.
They have some kinks to work out:
      1. It was FREEZING in the restaurant- no way to sit there and eat.
      2. I asked for gravy with my mashed potatoes, and didn’t get it. Oh well.
      3. The fries were not good. They tasted as if they had been sitting around a while, were limp and chewy. I bet when they are fresh they are not bad.

I really hope this place makes it. If they don’t make it with the Peruvian theme they still seem to be trying to keep, they really should go the comfort/soul food route and add waffles, mac and cheese, etc. to the menu- it would really work with their fried chicken recipe.
      I’ll be back.

    Hi Jim!

I am very happy that you enjoyed the fried chicken! I am very sorry to hear that your fries were a bit over cooked..we added spicy fries due to request and that may be something we need to increase turnaround on…We deeply appreciate your business and have been overwhelmed with the response so we are just trying to keep up with the quality of everything! I think you may have come at a time when we ran out of the amazing gravy I make! We have increased the amount of gravy we make for the day to compensate for this, and also have are making more fries frequently.

My goal is to maintain the quality of the food and be able to decrease the wait time as much as possible.

As far the freezing temperature in the restaurant, our cooling and heating had some issues yesterday evening. Unfortunately that is something that just happened and out of our control, and we are having maintenance fix it as soon as possible today.

When you come in next time, hopefully all of these things will be rectified! Once again, your feedback is deeply appreciated!

We would love to serve you again! ????

Heard about this new place and went to frito chicken today with my family and had their fried and roast chicken and chicken tenders with fries, everything was very good and we had a good time. The owner is a very nice lady and we had a good chat with her. I am so glad there is a fried chicken place near here now and hope to go back there again soon. Wish them good luck for their success.
