BANGRAK THAI IN ASHBURN CLOSING FOR GOOD

The popular Asian restaurant has served the Ashburn community for 10 years.

A longtime Ashburn staple is giving up the ghost. The Burn has learned that today is Bangrak Thai’s last day serving up Thai and Asian cuisine in the community. For 10 years, Bangrak has served customers its famous Drunken Noodle and Thai Fried Rice in the Shoppes at Ryan Park shopping center near the intersection of Ashburn Village Boulevard and 267. Bangrak sits next to the Red Robin.

The Burn spoke with two employees who confirmed the closure, but we didn’t get any other details about why the restaurant is shutting its doors. We also don’t have any details about what new business might eventually replace Bangrak.

In commercial real estate circles, the shopping center is considered a strong restaurant location due to the presence of industry leaders like Panera and Chipotle. There have also long been rumors about the empty parcel of land on the other side of Red Robin. So stay tuned — things could get interesting.

Sorry to see them leave. Everything was perfect but the location. Food, service, and atmosphere were great. Before them I saw my sushi restaurant, health club, and even long and foster go.

Worst Thai food I ever ate. Can’t understand how it stayed in business this long.

Sorry to see them go. When it first opened, I thought they were far and away the best Thai restaurant in the area. In later years, a lot of strong competition opened. Like “The Burn”, I also look forward to hearing what may take over that space.

Really sad to see them leave, have been there often over the years and a great meal with great service each time. Nice, warm atmosphere inside and usually a fair crowd (though I know they struggle on weeknights and weekdays plus didn’t seem to have a huge take out business). To me it’s the curse of opening a restaurant in the Ashburn area that even with the large population base tough for any sit down restaurant to last a long time.

This used to be our favorite Thai place when we first moved to Ashburn in 2008. We felt the food wasn’t as good recently as it was back then, but I’d still call it good. Sorry to see them go.

The location was not a fit with all the new options available.

When they refused to honor my restraunt.com certificate I bought the previous year we refused to go back. Restraunt.com confirmed they should have, but didn’t want to make a big deal in the middle of dinner. Glad they clsoed.

That shopping center is not a good location. Mostly apartments around that center. Too much competition.
