ASHBURN LOSES BOTH OF ITS PERUVIAN CHICKEN PLACES

The spit-roasted style of chicken has soared in popularity in recent years.

Fans of Peruvian chicken in the Ashburn area were dealt a harsh blow recently when the community’s two “pollo a la brasa” restaurants both disappeared.

Firebrick Chicken on Ashburn Road closed its doors a couple of weeks ago, while posting on social media that they would return with a new concept soon. However, there is a “For Lease” sign in the window of their former space, so a re-opening seems questionable. The Burn reached out to the owners but has not received a response.

Meanwhile, as we reported previously, The Pollo Factory in the Ashburn Eats center on Waxpool Road shut down too. (A location remains in Sterling.) It was quickly replaced by the new Frito Chicken, which serves both roasted and fried chicken, but it’s not Peruvian.

There are still plenty of Peruvian chicken places in the area — Super Chicken by the mall in Sterling and Chicken Rico on Market Street in Leesburg come to mind. There’s also a new one in Sterling’s Regal Center next to O’Faolain’s Irish Pub called Pollo Asado. But we are not aware of any others in Ashburn itself.

If you’re not familiar, Peruvian-style chicken is usually a seasoned spit-roasted chicken served with rice, fries, yuca and/or black beans and either a yellow mayo-based sauce or a green jalapeño-based sauce — both of which are delicious.

I’ve been enjoying Peruvian chicken for 30 years and Firebrick’s chicken, in my opinion, was pretty good- but their location was not good. It’s too bad they didn’t make it. The Pollo Factory, again, in my opinion, was not very good at all, and Frito Chicken, its replacement, is on its way to being very, very good. I have eaten there twice, including lunch time today and I was pleased to see they seemed to be doing a decent amount of business. It’s a little chaotic in there, but the food is really good.

If you look at the restaurant inspection reports, you will see that Chicken Rico in Sterling was hammered on their last inspection- 14 violations! No thanks, I’ll be skipping that place.
My favorite place is Pollos Inka in Herndon- only a 10 minute drive from Ashburn and they have a full menu- I highly recommend you try their chicken, then try other dishes like pollo saltado and pescado frito. All are excellent.

King Pollo in Sterling closed, also. Has the Peruvian chicken fad ended?

King Pollo just moved 1/2 mile down the street.

Super Chicken is the best Peruvian chicken …hands down

There are still several of them next door in Sterling.

King Pollo (which just moved to the Sterling Plaza shopping center) is probably the best.

There’s also a new Peruvian chicken place next door to O’Faolain’s in Sterling.

avoid Frito Chicken at all costs.

Why do you say that? I have to disagree. I think their fried chicken is good.

The best Peruvian chicken place is Pollo Peru which has 2 locations, one in Herndon (on Route 7) and one in Reston. Highly recommend!

I’ll second this! The Reston one is near the Home Depot.
