THE CRAFT OF BREWING HOLDS GRAND OPENING SATURDAY

The craft brewery also offers a brew-it-yourself program.

The Craft of Brewing — Ashburn’s own brew-it-yourself brewery is getting ready to hold its grand opening this Saturday, May 5. Beer enthusiasts can come in and try up to 20 different beers on tap. There will also be raffles and prizes including concert tickets, pool cues and gift cards. A variety of food trucks will be satisfying everyone’s munchies. And there will even be puppies up for adoption from Bully Paws, a DC area pit bull rescue organization. The Craft of Brewing is a supporter of Bully Paws.

If you haven’t been yet, The Craft of Brewing is on Ashburn Crossing Drive, off LoCo Parkway, north of Gloucester. It offers both a large selection of house brewed beers, as well as a program where hobbyists can come in and mix-and-match to make their own beer recipes. The micro-batches are then fermented on sight and bottled. The customer gets to take home their own batch a few weeks later.

The cavernous space has a bunch of pool tables as well as long picnic tables for gathering with friends. The self-service tap wall uses a card system. You insert your card into the slot, pour your own beer — as much or as little as you like — and the amount is added onto the card. You pay on your way out.

It’s a perfect set up for folks who want to try a variety of beers without committing to a full glass of one. With that in mind, The Burn recommends the “Hairy Red.” After trying several, that was the one we kept going back to.
