HALAL GUYS OPENS IN ASHBURN

According to social media, the new restaurant is opening its doors this weekend.

The Halal Guys, the popular New York restaurant chain that specializes in gyro and chicken wraps and rice bowls is reportedly opening its doors in Ashburn this weekend. According to the store’s Facebook page, they will be open starting tomorrow, Saturday June 30, at 11 a.m.

The new location is at the Ashburn Crossroads center at the intersection of Farmwell Road and Ashburn Village Boulevard. It takes over the former Starbucks location, after Sbux moved one building over in order to add a drive-thru lane. The Burn first broke the news about the new location more than a year ago — April 2017. (See story here.)

The Halal Guys started in the 1990s as a hot dog cart at 53rd & 6th Avenue in New York City. While they still have many food cart locations, today there are brick-and-mortar stores across the country in Florida, Illinois, Texas, Nevada, California and elsewhere. The growing NYC-based chain is known for its popular white sauce and the recipe for it is a closely guarded secret.

Meanwhile, lots of changes continue to unfold at Ashburn Crossroads. Besides the arrival of The Halal Guys, the restaurant-centric center is awaiting the opening of the new Bungalow Alehouse, which is taking over the former Bertucci’s building (see story here), as well as Burgerim, a new brand coming to Virginia that specializes in burger sliders and wings (see story here).

Their food is highly overrated and not worth the price. Basic chicken smothered in a flavorless “white” sauce. Read the responses that the manager leaves to lower ratings at the Merrifield location, that will give you all you need to know about the people running this place.

I ate there twice and I’d never teturn .
