FOUR SISTERS VIETNAMESE COMING TO ASHBURN

The new fast-casual restaurant will open in the Shoppes at Ryan Park.

Ashburn is getting a new Vietnamese restaurant, one connected to a well-known Northern Virginia name. The new Four Sisters Asian Snack Bar is coming to the Shoppes at Ryan Park. That’s the Giant-anchored center with Panera and Chipotle at the corner of Ashburn Village Boulevard and Shellhorn Road. The Four Sisters Snack Bar will be going into the space next to Jake’s Wayback Burgers, where Sul Bing, a “snow flake” dessert shop, used to be.

We spoke with the owner, Thuan Lai, who said the new restaurant will feature bánh mì sandwiches, noodle bowls, bubble tea and more. It will have Vietnamese dishes as well items from other Asian cuisines, such as musubi (Spam on a block of stick rice) popular in Japan and Hawaii.

The Lai family with celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain when he visited them in 2009.

The original Four Sisters Vietnamese Restaurant was founded by the Lai family in Falls Church back in 1993. It moved to the Merrifield Town Center in 2008. Back in 2009, celebrity chef and author Anthony Bourdain visited the Lais and raved about their food. Separately, one of the Lai brothers opened a fast-casual version of the restaurant in 2014 in Clarendon called Four Sisters Grill. It featured a pared down menu targeting customers on the go. Now, another brother is bringing the Four Sisters name and a similar concept to Ashburn.

The space is small — only about 1,300 s.f. There will be roughly eight tables for dining in and carry out will be a big part of their business. No official opening date yet, but the owners are hoping for this fall.

Actually we are both wrong. It’s musubi. I even looked it up before posting but either mis-typed it or autocorrect got me.

We are familiar with the original Four Sisters and their different venues. Really looking forward to great Banh Mi. The Lai family serve some of the best Vietnamese food in the area.

One of my daughters lives very near DC Banh Mi on Rt. 50 so I’m thrilled at the prospect of being able to get great banh mi closer to home!
