(UDPATE: This story has been updated to include new and corrected information.)
Big news on the fast food front — The Burn has learned that the SONIC Drive-In restaurant chain is planning their first Loudoun County location. It will be in Aldie in the very southernmost part of the county in a new shopping center being built there.
The Burn had been chasing rumors for several weeks and got the official word this morning.
“A SONIC Drive-In is slated to open in Aldie, Va., by the end of next year, at the intersection of Gum Springs Rd. and Braddock Rd,” said Johnny Jones, SONIC’s Vice President of Development and Construction, in an email to The Burn. “We will provide additional information as we near the grand opening.”
When a SONIC is coming is probably the top question The Burn receives from readers. Today’s news comes just a little over a month after news broke about a SONIC coming to Manassas, the first Northern Virginia location announced for the popular brand. (See original story here.)
Of course, we asked if there were plans for a SONIC up closer to Ashburn and surrounding communities.
“At this time, SONIC Drive-In does not have confirmed plans to open a new location in Ashburn, Va.,” Jones wrote. “However, we are constantly evaluating opportunities to expand in new markets to meet consumer demand, and our goal is to have a SONIC Drive-In convenient to all customers. We think Ashburn would make a great market for SONIC.”
The Burn agrees with Mr. Jones.
Is Wincheater not considered Northern Virginia because there is a Sonic there…
Winchester*
In this context, Northern Virginia refers to the area that’s part of the DC market and DC metro area.
I always found it odd that Sonic seems to advertise on TV so much around here yet they don’t have any locations in the area. Their nearest locations are in Winchester and Fredericksburg.
Winchester is part of the DC market. They get all of the Washington stations and don’t have a TV station of their own, how else would advertisers reach them?
sorry, no. it takes an hour to get there from Ashburn. That makes it decisively outside the DC market.
I’ll be happy when they open one in Fairfax County ????????
Let me know when its a Krystals 😉
hopefully braddock spring center gets a whole foods as well. would be nice to see some great american restaurant open in this sonic plaza
It’s actually not Braddock Spring Center, but across the street. We had some incorrect info in the story initially but have since removed it.
I’m from Winchester originally, and Thank God Winchester is NOT “Northern ” Virginia !
I was pleased to hear about Manassas, am thrilled about Aldie, and will be ecstatic when I see an Ashburn (or Sterling or Leesburg) announcement.
So across the street from the new Paul VI HS location. Odd that it is referred to as Aldie but good to have it coming
As someone who is moving to Adlie, this is exciting! Quick question though. I know that Publix has been talking about coming to NoVa and they already opened one store in Fredericksburg, Anybody hear any additional talk about therm coming closer here? I know Braddock Spring is supposed to have room for a grocery store. Maybe they can consider there (Wishful thinking! I know) 🙂
This location near the new Paul VI high school seems very close to the previously announced location near I-66 and 28 in Manassas.
It’s like less than 5 miles away.. but it wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened. That’s happened in Fredericksburg too
You’re right it’s less than 5 miles.. but that’s also how it is in Fredericksburg. There are three all right near each other there too…
The real question is, will Cook-Out ever make its way up to Northern VA? As a college student, it would be great to be able to have a late-night (not to mention cheap!) place to go during breaks and the summer.
Any update on this ? Manassas open theirs
Yes, we updated it in our recent article about the Manassas store. Despite Sonic corporate officials confirming the news about a Loudoun location, there has been no solid movement since. Local real estate brokers tell us that Sonic’s announcement was premature.
