Temporary Halloween store opens in former supermarket space

The old grocery store has sat vacant for years.

For years, local residents have waiting and wondered what would become of the former Bloom grocery store in Ashburn’s Belmont Greene neighborhood. Well, this probably isn’t the answer they were looking for, but at least the massive space is getting some use.

A temporary Spirit Halloween costume store has opened in old Bloom location. Costumes of every shape and size along with decorations and other spooky items are on sale. We especially liked the huge Reaper’s Wharf decor as you walk in the front door, with the haunted ship fishing for lost souls.

Staff tells us the pop-up costume store will be through Oct. 31 and for a few days after as well. They usually hold a blow-out clearance sale at the end of the season before they close. The store is also still hiring staff and asks that anyone interested please apply.

The future of the supermarket space and the entire shopping center is up in the air. As The Burn reported in August, one plan under consideration would call for tearing down the entire center. (See story here.)
