Loudoun’s newest ALDI store opens this week

The discount grocery store is opening off Loudoun County Parkway near Route 50.

The new ALDI grocery store south of Brambleton off Loudoun County Parkway is ready to roll this week. Its grand opening will be held this Thursday, December 12.

And there will be a sneak peek day on Wednesday, December 11.

That’s per a flyer that started showing up in area mailboxes this weekend.

The new discount grocery store store will be especially convenient for ALDI fans in South Riding, Stone Ridge, Arcola, Aldie, Willowsford and Brambleton, who have had to drive to the store in the Broadlands or the one in Chantilly.

The store will open in the new Evergreen Commerce Center plaza at the intersection of Loudoun County Parkway and Evergreen Mills Road. This is also the location of a Sheetz convenience store, an IHOP restaurant, and soon, a Wendy’s.

The store itself looks all set — shelves are stocked, carts are lined up neatly in a row, and yes the much debated “quarter” for an ALDI shopping cart is in place too. Shoppers will deposit a quarter in the carts to get one out of the cart corral, and they get their quarter back when they return it to the corral.

Aldi is a hard discount store that specializes in sub-brands of lower quality. If they could close the Broadlands store (along with the competitor Lidl) and replace it with a Trader Joe I wouldn’t mind.

Today we saw the lights on and the store was as lit as any other operating location. Excited to become a regular!
