Buford’s Biscuits setting up shop in Leesburg

The restaurant will specialize in Southern-style cat head biscuits with an array of toppings.

A new restaurant is coming to downtown Leesburg called Buford’s Biscuits. And we’ll give you one guess what they specialize in. You got it — jumbo cat head biscuits with all sort of delicious toppings.

Buford’s Biscuits will be opening at 15 Loudoun Street in Leesburg. That’s the former home of the Balls of Glory meatball-themed restaurant that recently closed.

The new biscuit shop is the brainchild of Lauren Barrett and her business partner, Charles Schech. Barrett says her family comes from a mountain “holler” in southern Virginia, and her father is a hilarious good old boy named Buford. Thus the restaurant’s name.

As far as the menu, we’ll let Barrett tell you about it in her own words: “Cat head biscuits are the focus. These are traditional Southern drop biscuits that aren’t the most aesthetically pleasing, but have a wonderful, buttery exterior that gives way to an extraordinarily moist middle. The perfect vessel for local fried chicken, a dollop of house made apple butter, a little slaw and perhaps a poached egg… because why not! Oh, and these babies are as big as a cat’s head. Our menu will be almost 100 percent local as working with farmers and chefs is a … passion of mine.”

There will be side dishes, local beers and wine and outdoor dining when the weather is nice.

Buford’s Biscuits is targeting a mid-April opening so get your stretchy pants ready.
