Makers Union Pub coming to Reston Town Center

The new establishment will be a coffee house, restaurant and bar.

A new “pub for the people” is coming to the Reston Town Center. It’s called Makers Union Pub and it will be a combination coffee house, restaurant and neighborhood bar.

Makers Union Pub is going into the space vacated by American Tap Room. That long-time RTC establishment closed at the end of 2019.

The pub’s nascent website describes it thusly: “A place with crazy delicious food and destination drinks. A place to grab a crave-worthy bite on the fly or to hang awhile with a book and coffee. A place to brunch with your besties or happy hour with your work crew. A place to roll solo with your laptop or roll deep with your family and friends.”

No word on when Makers Union will open, but it’s one of several new restaurants at the Town Center. The Capitol Burger opened last month (see story here) and Jinya Ramen Bar is supposed to open in 2020 as well (see story here).

Reston Town Center has fallen and can’t get up. They have almost as much empty space as they do businesses. Paid parking really hurt businesses and landlord has their head in the sand thinking things will change. It’s like a ghost town. And expect more restaurants to close down at the center.

We haven’t seen much progress on True Food since the coronavirus pandemic started, but it’s still coming as far as we know.

Town Center is still in decline and once the redone federal and NOVA economies have to be redone the need for restaurants in the TC will continue to decline.
