New shortcut between Sycolin Road and Route 7 is underway

The new road will also provide another access point to the popular Village at Leesburg center.

Local officials broke the ceremonial ground today for the new Crosstrail Boulevard extension. When completed, the roadway will provide a new, main route between Sycolin Road and Route 7 — right by the Village at Leesburg center with its movie theater, shops, restaurants and Wegmans grocery store. For drivers coming from Ashburn, it will provide another access point to the popular shopping center via Sycolin.

Previously, Crosstrail Boulevard was constructed from Sycolin Road to Kincaid Boulevard. It wends its way from a four-way stop on Sycolin, past the new Segra Field where the Loudoun United Soccer team plays, and up to Kincaid Boulevard. Now, the road will continue on and connect to the Village at Leesburg and Route 7.

Here’s a map with a rough approximation of where the new road will go.

The $50 million project has encountered some delays with the planning and land procurement phases. It is currently projected to wrap up and open to traffic in the Fall of 2022.

Thanks for this info., Chris. I’ve been seeing construction near the W&OD Trail near mile marker 31. It seems like this will take awhile. They have to cross over the W&OD Trail and then again over the Tuscarora creek.
