School employee who handed out chromebooks tests positive for coronavirus

The staffer last worked at Madison’s Trust Elementary on Tuesday.

Loudoun County Public Schools announced Friday evening that a district staff member who had helped distribute chromebooks on Tuesday had tested positive for the coronavirus. The chromebooks were handed out at Madison’s Trust Elementary in Ashburn.

Superintendant Eric Williams released a letter to Madison’s Trust families.

“The purpose of this letter is to notify you that an LCPS staff member who participated in the Chromebook distribution program at Madison’s Trust Elementary School on March 31st has reportedly tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The staff member is currently self-isolating, and we wish them a swift and complete recovery,” the letter said in part.

This staff member last worked at Madison’s Trust on Tuesday, March 31, and began exhibiting symptoms on Thursday, April 2. LCPS staff members were following recommended social-distancing guidelines throughout the Chromebook distribution process; those guidelines are attached for your reference.

This comes just a day after LCPS announced that a member of the transportation staff who had helped deliver meals to students in Loudoun County was also positive for the coronavirus.

“To the families of Potomac Falls High School, Dominion High School, River Bend Middle School, Seneca Ridge Middle School, as well as Algonkian, Countryside, Potowmack, Horizon, Lowes Island, Meadowland and Sugarland Elementary Schools: The purpose of this letter is to notify you that a school Transportation staff member who has supported the LCPS meal service program has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The staff member is self-isolating, and we wish them a swift and complete recovery,” the announcement read. “This staff member last worked in the Potomac Falls/Dominion High School region  on Thursday, March 26th. They began exhibiting symptoms on Saturday, March 28th.”

As of Friday evening, there were 130 known cases of coronavirus in Loudoun County, including two patients who passed away from the illness. 46 people have died of the virus statewide.
