Owner of Parallel issues new statement about t-shirt controversy

Jason Bursey answer questions posed by people angered by what he said was an attempt at humor.

Jason Bursey, the owner of Parallel Wine & Whiskey Bar in the Broadlands, took to Facebook Live again today to address the concerns expressed by many people over a t-shirt he had hanging in his restaurant. Many were also upset by some of his personal social media posts. (See our previous coverage on the issue here.)

The posts and the t-shirt — which featured the slogan “Drunk Wives Matter” — a play on the name of the “Black Lives Matter” movement — stirred many people to express anger towards Bursey. Many others reached out in support and it all played out on social media.

Here is a link to Bursey’s statement today on Facebook.

Seriously how to people have so much time to appalled over everything. You get points for labeling something racist if you are first. Lets just cancel everything and start over.

Nobody can say nothin these days. Gosh, can people just take a breath. The sky is blue, well let’s debate that (humor, sarcasm, etc.). From what I’ve read about Jason, he works REALLY hard at doing a good business and providing for his family. There use to be a phrase, “count to 10” and then think about the situation, issue, article, etc. Maybe we should try using some common sense and count to 10.

People need to lighten up. Parallel Wine & Whiskey Bar is a treasure.
