Great Gatherings closes all locations, including One Loudoun

A notice went out late Friday afternoon announcing the closures.

It looks like the business fallout from the coronavirus pandemic has chalked up another victim. A notice went out today that Great Gatherings has closed all its retail locations, which would include the store at One Loudoun in Ashburn.

“We’re terribly saddened to announce that the closure of our business (American Heritage Billiards) and retail stores (GreatGatherings) for some period of time due to the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the bank closure of our business as of June 25th, 2020,” the statement reads. It went out in email and appears on the Great Gatherings website.

Great Gatherings is a retail store brand that specializes in home entertainment furnishings such as outdoor patio sets, pool tables and bar furniture, even arcade games and luxury dart boards. Great Gatherings had five locations in the greater DC area. Besides Ashburn, there were stores in Fairfax and Gainesville in Virginia as well as Annapolis and Gaithersburg in Maryland.

The Burn attempted to reach officials with Great Gatherings and One Loudoun regarding the closure, but no one was available. Sometimes companies will close in order to reorganize and reopen later, but — as of now — there is no evidence that this is planned for Great Gatherings.

We spent $10k at GG less than two weeks ago. Come to find out yesterday that they’re closing all locations. Worried that our furniture will not be delivered and that we have no recourse to obtain a refund.

We are in the same situation. We spent 20k on June 10 & furniture is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow June 29. We are praying we still receive the delivery tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

We are in the same boat. We were supposed to receive patio furniture today and just read that they foreclosed. Unable to get ahold of anyone. Called all the stores listed online and no answer.

I am in same situation. I paid for a table that has yet to be delivered.

I ordered the patio dining set by the Brown Jordan in April, but they changed the delivery date from the end of June, 2020 to August 8th, 2020 saying that the Brown Jordan’s plant was closed several weeks, therefore the delivery date was changed from June to August. I’ve just found out today that they never placed any order with the Brown Jordan (according to the Brown Jordan’s representative). They just used my payment for themselves. I contacted my credit card company, Amex, but they told me if they can not promise if they can get back the money from the Greatgatherings. I am going to send a letter today (certified letter) to their representative for this store closing problem. According to the Brown Jordan, their plants never closed for COVID19, and the Brown Jordan themselves has not been paid by Greatgatherings and they were not contacted by Greatgatherings before they closed fall of their stores.

Did you get your furniture? We ordered and paid in June and they were holding it until our project was complete. Worried now we are not getting it at all and now have to get credit card involved.

I’m wondering who going to help us with the 15 year warranty. I guess we shall learn from our mistakes, give retail stores 10 percent down and pay the rest upon delivery. I had a problem with my 5k patio table, but they fixed it 2 days prior to closing. I hope Those on this thread get their purchase. Fingers crossed for you.

pish posh. Muffy and I just ordered one hundred thousand dollars of cushions two weeks ago and we’re devastated to find out that no more deliveries will be made. I mean, what will our little bishon frises use to get comfortable?

So we spent 4K on a a pool an Air Hokey table. Both items were delivered , however Air hockey table was floor model and Pool table configuration was not correct. Was promised that someone will soon come and fix the pool table and also a New Air hockey table will be delivered by Aug.

Now I am stuck with a floor model air hockey table and a pool table that has incorrect pockets. Not sure wht to Do. Even left a message to the store director via phone and linkedin. No response…

We as well purchased a air hockey table last year in December. We called several times and was told it was still with the manufacturer, boy do we know better now. We were originally offered a floor model as well, but we refused and wanted a new one. If we only knew then what we know now, we would have taken the floor model.

I finally got a reply from Tropitone, the furniture maker. Great Gatherings sold me $2,000 of their furniture on March 24. Tropitone has my money and basically said “tough shit”. They are keeping my money and will NOT deliver the furniture. They stated GG had outstanding invoices and my money went for those. I’m going to sue them this morning in small claims court. They said deliveries will NOT happen and we all are just out of luck and don’t call them back. Run….not walk to small claims or general district court and sue the maker who shill has your money.

I bought an umbrella and a commercial umbrella base on June 15, 20. They set up delivery on July 10 and it never happened. I found down today that all GG stores are closing.

If you know your store are closing why bother to sale? This means you’re stealing money from people.

Please made a refund as soon as possible if you would like Great Gathering to be in business again.
This unannounced closing making GG bad reputation, your merchandise are outstanding, but the management are not.

I, too, have paid for merchandise that I have not received. This is very distressing to me and to all the other innocent people who purchased goods from Great Gatherings. I have sent two emails to Key Bank with no response. I doubt that they will answer. I am thinking of calling the local news show, 7 on your side, to see if they can be of any help. This is just not right.

Everyone posting here about paying deposits for no merchandise should file a charge back with their credit card. If the company is bankrupt you are probably out of luck if you expect to get any money back from them directly. Bankruptcy court will pay the big vendors off and maybe you’ll get a crumb if there are any left afterward.

Just had to deal with this myself with Wolf Furniture.

This is why you never pay for something like this with a check. Credit cards purchases can be refuted and likely refunded. But then again, anyone spending >$10K for patio furniture likely had someone ready to separate them from their money one way or another. Think of it as a “lesson in life” tuition bill. BTW, you know what? I’ve got this timeshare property …

Is this comments by Erick, former GreatGatherings district manager?
I learned a lesson that you mentioned in your comment spending $5,000 for an outdoor dining set. They took my money i April,, 2020 and did not order anything for me to the maker, Brown Jordan (I found out yesterday). They lied to me saying Brown Jordan’s plant was forced to close for several weeks du to COVID19, but according to Brown Jordan, they have never closed any plants. GreatGathering lied to their customer and use their money. They committed Federal & State Fraud and should be prosequted.
