Construction on new Wawa in Loudoun is underway

The new convenience store will go up at the intersection of Gloucester and Pacific.

Big news for fans of the Wawa convenience store brand. Work on the second Wawa location in Loudoun County is underway.

As The Burn reported more than two years ago, this newest Wawa will be coming to the northeast corner of Pacific Boulevard and Gloucester Parkway, just off State Road 28. It will be part of the huge Kincora development that is slowly coming to life in the area.

This week, two small bulldozers were out scooping up dirt and moving it around. Meanwhile, large cement pipes are stacked on the site and at least one clearly has Wawa spray painted on the side.

When it is built out, Kincora will be a major residential and commercial development in Loudoun County and a cultural hub for the community. Besides the Wawa, plans call for a hotel, retail shops and restaurants and two major museums — a $75 million Children’s Science Center and a $72 million National Museum of Intelligence and Special Operations.

Residential opportunities are already coming online at Kincora. Recently, the Jameson at Kincora, a 333-unit elegant apartment complex started pre-leasing. You can learn more here.

No official date on when the Wawa at Kincora will open for business. The last word we heard was Spring 2021, but that timeline may no longer hold.

The first Wawa in Loudoun opened in June 2017 off Old Ox Road near the Fairfax County border. The Kincora location has long been in the planning, and a third Wawa was under consideration in the South Riding area off Route 50.

Wawa is a Pennsylvania-based company that has been growing rapidly on the East Coast. The brand is famous for its hoagie sandwiches sold at its in-store restaurant, as well as the remarkable level of loyalty felt by customers.
