Locals Tacos & Tequila aiming for a mid-August opening

The new restaurant is opening in the former Mokomandy space in Sterling.

The new Locals Tacos & Tequilas restaurant coming to Sterling is getting closer to opening day. The Locals team is currently finishing up the renovations on their space and finalizing the dishes on the menu. And The Burn has your first sneak peek of both.

It was just a few weeks ago that we told you about the new Mexican restaurant coming to the former Mokomandy space in Great Falls Plaza, at the intersection of Algonkian Parkway and Lowes Island Boulvard. The restaurant is the brainchild of Jim Speros, who also owns the local Velocity Wings and Social House restaurant brands.

Here are a few of the items almost certain to be on the menu:

  • Locals Signature Taco – Braised short rib, queso fresco, crema, pickled white onions, radish, cilantro
  • Firecracker Taco – Fried shrimp with sriracha mayo sauce, green onions, diced fresh jalapeno and diced red bell peppers
  • Chicken Tinga Taco – Shredded chicken in spicy tomato and chipotle sauce, cabbage, avocado crema, pico de gallo, queso fresco, cilantro
  • Flautas – Three flour tortillas filled and rolled, fried crispy with your choice of chicken with salsa or beef with avocado ranch

Right now, the plans call for a mid-August opening. So far, it looks like that timeline is on track so stay tuned.
