Playa Bowls opening Reston Town Center location

The quick service restaurant specializes in açaí, pitaya and coconut bowls as well as smoothies.

(UPDATED 7-31-20) A new quick service restaurant that specializes in açaí, pitaya and coconut bowls as well as smoothies has confirmed they are opening a location in the Reston Town Center. It’s called Playa Bowls and the slogan on its logo reads “Welcome to PineappleLand.” They hope to open in October.

The brand is taking the small corner unit at the intersection of Democracy Drive and Discovery Street. It’s the location that — in the past — has been the brb burger restaurant and the Hen Penny fried chicken restaurant. It’s across the street from the new True Food Kitchen location that was supposed to open in August, but now appears to be behind schedule. (The Burn has passed by several times recently and seen no construction work going on.)

Playa Bowls was started in New Jersey in 2014 and has since grown to 80+ locations in more than a dozen states. Besides açaí, pitaya, and coconut, there are bowls with bananas, chia, oatmeal and more. Check out the full menu here.

*With the Metro Silver Line coming soon, The Burn is exploring restaurants and retail news at Reston Town Center, Reston Station and other similar developments that are along the Metro/267 corridor and Loudoun adjacent.
