Major league rugby team has new home at Loudoun’s Segra Field

Old Glory DC will begin playing in Loudoun County in 2021.

Big news for area sports fans as another team makes Leesburg’s Segra Field its new home field. Old Glory DC, a professional rugby club and part of the top tier Major League Rugby organization, is coming to Loudoun in 2021.

Old Glory will move from its current field — Cardinal Stadium at the Catholic University campus in DC. The team will share Segra Field with the Loudoun United FC (soccer) team.

“Segra Field, which is located at Phillip A. Bolen Park in Leesburg, will offer Old Glory’s fans the best possible presentation of the sport of rugby, from the properly dimensioned, top-quality turf field, to the clear sight lines, comfortable seating, and festival-like match day experience that Old Glory fans have come to expect, with tailgating, a beer garden, and kids’ play zone,” read a press release announcing the agreement.

Major League Rugby normally has a 16-game season, so that means up to eight games could be played in Loudoun next year.

Old Glory DC is holding an open house at Segra Field for current fans as well as new fans and anyone curious about the sport of rugby. The event will be Sunday, November 8th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Nice to hear. I had tickets for a match in DC earlier this year, but it was canceled because of the plague. This is a lot closer.
