Bojangles in Sterling reportedly aiming for a March opening

The popular fried chicken restaurant is going into the Potomac Run Plaza shopping center.

Construction continues apace on the new Bojangles fried chicken location in Sterling — the first location in the D.C. suburbs of Northern Virginia. The popular chicken chain is opening in the Potomac Run Plaza shopping center in a former bank building.

The owners shared photos today showing the progress. The latest developments include the installation of dining room windows and the creation of a drive-thru window. Inside, the cement floors have been poured and crews are framing out walls. Here’s a rendering of what the future Sterling Bojangles is expected to look like when complete.

The Burn was the first media outlet to report the Bojangles deal a year ago this week and the pending arrival of “Bo time” in Loudoun County has generated high interest among local fried chicken fans. The owners of the Sterling location had originally hoped to be open around the holidays, but are now hinting that they are aiming for a March 2021 opening — just three months away. Of course, that is all contingent on construction and final permitting going smoothly.

Bojangles was started in Charlotte NC in 1977 and is still based there. There are roughly 750 Bojangles, primarily in the South and Mid-Atlantic. Locally, the closest Bojangles restaurants are two locations south of us in Fredericksburg, and two to the west of us in Winchester. There are also some in the Maryland suburbs and one at Union Station in the District.

And me ? Heading south, I always stop at the first Bojangles. Doesn’t make any difference what time of day – the chicken, the biscuits, the cold slaw, the tea, the coffee, will all be the best I ever had. I don’t know how they do it. Impeccably clean, pleasant staff. America’s best fast food place.
I’ll be glad when they open in Sterling.
