New details on the XCAL shooting club going up in Ashburn

The luxury shooting range will also feature a retail store, a cafe and a large fitness center.

The new high-end XCAL Shooting Sports & Fitness coming to Ashburn has “gone vertical” — meaning they’ve started framing out the building — and The Burn has new details about the project as well as new images. XCAL is under construction off Russell Branch Parkway, just east of the Topgolf driving range.

As regular readers know, XCAL has been in the works for several years now. The two-story, 95,000 s.f. facility is aiming to be far more than just a shooting range and retail gun store.

It will have a full fitness club for members including an outdoor area with CrossFit-like “functional fitness” features such as tire flips and sled pushes, plus there will be a full locker room. There will also be an onsite cafe, a martial arts dojo, meetings rooms, an outdoor balcony overlooking Topgolf and more.

For shooting enthusiasts, XCAL is bringing a gun range unlike anything seen in the area before. There will actually be three different types of ranges for all skill levels and interests.

  • Luxury Stalls — The basic shooting stalls at XCAL will be 5-feet wide by 10-feet deep, larger than the industry standard, and feature enhanced ventilation. They will also have uniquely designed walls that are not quite parallel and will funnel the firearm sounds down range, reducing the decibel level in the stall.
  • Tactical Ranges — XCAL will also have tactical ranges that allow guests to safely move forward of the firing line and move down range to shoot at a variety of moving targets. This range will include not just steel walls, but a baffled steel ceiling.
  • Private Ranges — Finally, there will be six completely private ranges, meaning you’re not just standing in a room with multiple stalls. Here, the walls will go all the way down range. You will be in an entirely private shooting range with no one else besides your party.

If the current timeline for XCAL stays on target, the owners hope to open it in Fall 2021. They will likely start out with a soft opening for founding members and premium members before opening the doors to the general public.
