Black Hog BBQ plans to open its doors in Ashburn this week

The new restaurant in Ashburn prepares a variety of meats in its wood smoker.

An eagerly anticipated new barbecue restaurant in Ashburn is planning on opening this Thursday, January 14. Black Hog BBQ has brought its first location in Virginia to the Riverside Square shopping center north of Route 7 — and The Burn has your first look inside.

Black Hog is part of a small Frederick, Maryland-based chain. They have four locations in Maryland. The new Ashburn location is their first to embrace the “fast casual” model where customers order at a counter and then take a seat until their food is ready. The soft opening this week will allow the Black Hog team to make sure their systems are all working properly and their staff is ready before a grand opening is scheduled later.

The restaurant smokes its meat in a large wood smoker brought in from Texas. They use oak with a little hickory mixed in to smoke brisket, pork shoulder, sausage and more. And while they do have a dining room and a large patio for when it’s warmer, carry out and delivery will also be a big part of the business, especially in this time of social distancing. Riverside Square is located near the intersection of Riverside Parkway and Ashburn Village Boulevard. Other tenants include the new Texas Roadhouse restaurant and a Mattress Warehouse.
