The pop-up drive-in movie theater that had people buzzing last fall and this spring is returning for a summer run. Alamo Drafthouse at One Loudoun is resuming showing outdoor movies this weekend in a large gravel lot near the theater.
The starting line-up of movies includes the delightful movie musical “In the Heights” on Friday night (pictured above), “Peter Rabbit 2” on Saturday, and “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” on Sunday.
The following weekend — Thursday, June 24 to Sunday, June 27 — the drive-in will show “F9: The Fast Saga” — the latest movie in the popular “Fast & Furious” franchise. And from July 8 to July 11 — the Alamo Drive-In will feature the latest Marvel superhero movie, “Black Widow.” You can get more information on the drive-in and upcoming showings here.
The Alamo Drafthouse launched its drive-in theater last August at the peak of the pandemic. With restrictions on the number of people indoors at theaters and people feeling wary about gathering in enclosed spaces, the Alamo started the drive-in as a way to keep showing movies to eager film buffs and families. It proved so popular, they’ve kept it going even as audiences have slowly returned to indoor theaters.
