Good news for Sonic fans eager for the new Leesburg location to get underway. The owners are making progress and have released new renderings of what the drive-in restaurant off Battlefield Parkway will look like.

We’re told the plans have been approved by the town’s Board of Architectural Review, which is a major step. The overall site plans continue to work their way through the approval process.

From the new renderings, we can see what the restaurant will look like, more or less. One side of the building will feature a drive-thru lane. The other side will feature two rows of parking spaces with ordering screens where people can have food brought to their car. There also appears to be a small, enclosed dining room at the front of the restaurant building.

The Burn was the first media outlet to break the news that Sonic was headed to Loudoun County when we reported it last September. The popular national chain is going into the Oaklawn development near the intersection of Battlefield Parkway SE and Miller Drive. It will reportedly be just east of the Northwest Federal Credit Union building.

It’s still too early for there to be an announcement of an opening date. The owners hope to have their site plans approved by the end of this year, and construction would start in 2022, with a target of being open by late next year.
