Residential development proposed for Ashburn’s Blue Mount Nursery property

A major homebuilding company is proposing a new community that would be built on property in Ashburn where the well-known Blue Mount Nursery garden center sits just off Route 7. That’s according to a filing with Loudoun County’s Planning and Zoning office.

The planned community currently has the colorful name Dogwood Farm Station and would consist of 485 multi-family units, including 100 units that would be considered affordable dwellings for county residents with limited incomes. The developer is the U.S. Home Corporation.

According to the filing, the properties to be developed would include the main Blue Mount Nursery property, which is just over 15 acres, plus a nearby parcel that is just under four acres. The properties would need to be rezoned from A-3 (agriculture and low residential density) to R-24, which allows for multi-family developments. That application is pending.

The property lies close to the soon-to-expand Riverside Parkway. The roadway is being connected over to Loudoun County Parkway and will provide an alternative to Route 7 running all the way to Leesburg.

It’s unclear what this proposal would mean for the future of Blue Mount Nursery. The Burn has left several messages with Blue Mount for more details and we’ll let you know what we find out.
