Crews making progress at huge Hanson Regional Park

County officials have released an update on the progress of the huge Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park scheduled to open in the Ashburn area next year. They have also released some new aerial images. The park will feature a number of unique and noteworthy amenities — you can see our previous coverage here.

Here are some of the details from the update:

“Crews are making progress constructing the various structures and features throughout Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park, currently under construction on Evergreen Mills Road in Arcola. Athletic fields with turf and lighting, buildings, paths and other features are under construction throughout the park.”

“When completed, the park will feature 17 lighted athletic fields, including two artificial turf fields and one cricket field; five ponds; the historic Hanson House; an event lodge and nature center; a skate plaza and disc golf course; a splash pad and playground with inclusive features and over 75 acres of passive recreational space.”

“Crews have begun the installation of retaining walls at the baseball fields and continue to install sod and sports netting posts at the rectangular athletic fields. Current work on park features also includes the continued construction of boardwalks/piers, asphalt paving the basketball court, underground plumbing rough-in and the installation of foundations at the splash pad.”

“The Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park project includes the design and construction of a new 257-acre regional park located on Evergreen Mills Road in Arcola, between the Brambleton and Willowsford communities. The park will be operated by the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services and is estimated for completion in spring of 2022.”
