Back in June, The Burn broke the news about a new Mexican restaurant coming to the Ashbrook Commons shopping plaza on Ashburn’s north side. It was going to be called El Ranchero, and was part of a small brand with several other El Ranchero locations in the region. Well, the ownership group is now tweaking its plans.

The Burn has learned that El Ranchero is not coming to Ashburn. Instead, they are going with another restaurant brand that they also operate. It’s called Altos de Jalisco Mexican Restaurant and it’s described as a more upscale version of what they were planning previously.

They are going into the former Rubino’s Pizzeria space at the Ashbrook Commons. Ashburn will likely be the second location for Altos de Jalisco. The first one opened this summer in Winchester.

The menu at Altos de Jalsico still features all the Mexican favorites that you would expect to find — guacamole, nachos, tacos, fajitas, burritos, enchiladas and carne asada. You can see the restaurant’s full menu here.

In case you were wondering, Los Altos de Jalisco is a term for the Jaliscan highlands, a region in the eastern part of the Mexican state of Jalisco. Los Altos is one of the main tequila producing regions in the state.

Wont last with a cheaper Cafe Rio option next door.

Thank god we’re not in a race to the bottom, cheapest, blandest food possible in Loudoun.
