The project, which is getting underway as we speak, will connect George Washington Boulevard on the north side of 7 with Russell Branch Boulevard on the south side. The spot is marked in red on the image above.

The connection will be made just down the road from Topgolf and the new XCAL Shooting Sports & Fitness location.

“The proposed overpass includes four 11-foot wide travel lanes, a 6-foot wide sidewalk along the southbound side of the road, and a 10-foot-wide shared-use path along the northbound side,” reads a VDOT description of the project. “The sidewalk and shared-use path will link to existing facilities along Russell Branch Parkway, Pacific Boulevard and Research Place/Bridgefield Way.”

Virginia DOT warns that during construction, some daytime and overnight lane closures along Route 7 may be scheduled as well as traffic impacts on George Washington Boulevard.

The $30.6 million project is expected to be completed in mid-2024.
