Arrest made in December murder of Brambleton woman

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday afternoon that an arrest had been made in the murder of a Brambleton woman just before the New Year’s holiday. But another suspect remains on the run.

54 year-old Abdul Waheed of Leesburg was taken into custody Friday and charged with Accessory Before the Fact to First-Degree Murder and Accessory After the Fact to First-Degree Murder.

These charges came after investigators determined he drove the other suspect in the case — Furqan Syed, 40, of Leesburg — to the victim’s home.

Syed fled the country on January 3 and Loudoun detectives are working with federal and overseas police agencies to try and take him into custody.

He faces charges including First Degree Murder, Entering a Residence with Intent to Commit Murder, and Shooting in the Commission of Murder. There are also three firearms counts filed against Syed.

On December 30, authorities were called to the Brambleton townhome of 57-year-old Najat Chemlali Goode. A family member had found her injured inside the residence on Connie Marie Terrace. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

While details of the investigation haven’t been released, the Sheriff’s Office has released that they believe there was a connection between Syed, Waheed and Chemlali Goode.
