South Block bringing acai bowls, smoothies to Loudoun

Another day, another announcement of a new restaurant brand coming into Loudoun County. This time it’s South Block, a trendy DC-based purveyor of acai bowls, smoothies, and juices.

The brand has signed a lease for a spot in a new block of retail stores that was just built along Exchange Street in the One Loudoun lifestyle center. It will be across the street from the future Sephora store and underneath the Venture X shared office space above.

According to the company’s website, there are 11 South Block location currently, but the furthest one west is an Arlington store. So Ashburn will be a leap of distance and faith for them.

The menu at South Block includes the signature Warrior Bowl, with organic acai, bananas, strawberries, and pineapple juice blended and then topped with handmade granola, bananas, blueberries and strawberries.

The also have a variety of other bowls, as well as green smoothies, protein smoothes and classic fruit smoothes, and several types of topped toasts. You can see the full South Block menu below, although items offered may vary from store to store.

Things definitely seem to have turned around since the doldrums of the pandemic, when many brands were hitting pause on expansion. In recent weeks, The Burn has reported on restaurants such as Milk & Honey, Mezeh Mediterranean Grill, My Home Thai Bistro and the Lazy Dog Restaurant all signing leases or at least exploring a Loudoun location. And earlier today, we reported that Ted’s Bulletin is opening in Ashburn.

And those are all brands with multiple locations. It doesn’t count new home-grown restaurants such as Bourbon Bayou Kitchen, Lettuce Be Loco, Tally Ho Pizza, Gogi Go Go Korean BBQ, and several others that have launched in Loudoun.
