Leesburg holding vigil for Ukraine on Friday evening

Kelly Burk, the mayor of Leesburg, will join with members from the Town Council on Friday evening — March 18 — to hold a vigil for Ukraine.

Plans call for short speeches from the gathered dignitaries, as well as a prayer, a moment of silence and a performance of traditional Ukrainian music.

“Cruelty is a horrible thing to witness. The on-going events in Ukraine display man’s cruelty at its most depraved,” Burk said in a statement announcing the vigil. “We stand with the Ukrainian people and for the Democratic nation of Ukraine.”

The event will take place on the Town Green, located at 25 W Market Street. It starts at 7 p.m. and the public is encouraged to attend.
