Big Buns planning second Herndon location

It looks like Herndon will soon have not one, but two Big Buns Damn Good Burgers restaurants. One is opening this weekend in the Franklin Farm Village Center shopping plaza and now comes word of a second location on busy Elden Street.

According to documents viewed by The Burn, the latest Big Buns is slated to come to a roughly 1,100 s.f. spot at 1142 Elden Street. That’s the site of a former Robek’s smoothie shop, immediately next door to a Chipotle Mexican Grill.

The new restaurant will apparently be carry-out only — both for customers who walk in as well as for delivery services such as DoorDash and Grubhub.

Big Buns is a Northern Virginia-based brand that got its start in Arlington in 2007. It started expanding in 2018, with a second location in Shirlington, and then a third in Reston near the Wiehle Metro station in 2021. According to the company’s website, there is also a location in Fort Lauderdale.

The brand is now working on at least three additional locations — the aforementioned Franklin Farms spot in Herndon is officially opening its doors tomorrow — Saturday, April 16. Meanwhile, a location in Vienna is also in the offing. And now comes word of the future Elden Street store.

The Big Buns menu specializes in gourmet burgers, chicken sandwiches, French fries and shakes. You can see the full menu here.

The Burn reached out to the Big Buns team for more information on their Herndon plans, and to find out if a future Loudoun County location is a possibility. We’re still waiting for word back.
