Food market out, salon in at Lansdowne Square

There’s an update about tenants coming to a small strip of retail storefronts in Lansdowne — a proposed market is out and a beauty studio is in. We’re talking about the Lansdowne Square shopping plaza.

Lansdowne Square is across the town green from the Lansdowne Town Center. They are two separate centers, although the average shopper probably wouldn’t notice that because they are immediately adjacent to each other.

Lansdowne Square has a challenging past — the newest spaces have sat mostly vacant for more than five years now. But around the corner, a myriad of shops fill storefronts on Diamond Lake Drive, which has the same management.

The most prominent tenant of the section facing the town green — a Sugar Shack Donuts location opened in 2019. But the owners soon parted ways with the Sugar Shack brand and changed the donut shop to Corner Donuts. This happened right around March 2020 — and the arrival of the COVID-19 was the kiss of death to Corner Donuts. It closed in the early weeks of the pandemic and never reopened.

More recently, a new tenant has taken a spot in Lansdowne Square. The Lansdowne Cleaners store, a dry cleaner, moved its location across the green from the Town Center next door.

Now comes word that the Madina Market — touted as an organic and “clean” foods market — is no longer coming. What happened to the deal, we don’t know. But we’ve been told that a My Salon Suite is take much of the space instead. And indeed, posters for My Salon Suite are now hanging in the windows.

The My Salon Suite concept has independent beauty professionals leasing a mini-suite inside the facility, where they can then offer their specific services — be it hair styling, nails, an aesthetician, etc.

We’re told other tenants are in the works so stay tuned to see if future deals are announced soon.

  1. Never knew there was a donut place that opened and closed. Now I’m sad I never tried it.
