Tanuki Japanese Restaurant closes in Ashburn

A sushi restaurant in Ashburn has closed its doors for good. After five years in business, Tanuki Japanese Restaurant is no more.

“Thank you so much and appreciate … your support … all these years,” read a message on the restaurant’s social media. Their last day was Sunday.

Tanuki was located in the Cameron Chase Village Center — known as Ice Rink Plaza to many. It opened in 2017, taking over the space from the Sushi Noshi restaurant.

The sign is still up, but a peek in the window shows much of the furniture and fixtures inside Tanuki have already been removed.

No word on what will come to the space next. This is the third vacancy in the center located off Waxpool Road near the intersection with Smith Switch Road.

Besides the empty Tanuki space, there are also vacant spots where Great Harvest Bread Co. and Subway used to be.

I liked the chicken katsu a lot but I only tried it recently. I’m a little upset they’ve closed.

My daughter is quite upset. Went by 9/3 for Tonkatsu Ramen…but alas. Been going there for a few years.
